Education Vogelweh Elementary Robotics Team, Garden Club Enjoy Unique Field Trip to Gartenschau

The Vogelweh Elementary School (VES) robotics team and garden club recently took an unforgettable field trip to the Gartenschau, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Lauter Steine, the local Kaiserslautern LEGO club.
The day began with a behind-the-scenes tour of the LEGO exhibits at Gartenschau, where VES students had the rare opportunity to meet some of the creators behind the intricate LEGO builds. The builders answered questions and shared insights into their creative processes, sparking curiosity and inspiration among the young visitors.
Following the tour, Lauter Steine hosted a series of engaging workshops tailored to the interests of both the robotics team and the garden club. Robotics students were challenged to build a LEGO apartment, which was later added to the LEGO hall. They also participated in a build challenge using only one type of brick and marveled at a perpetual marble LEGO build, discussing its mechanics with the creator.
Meanwhile, garden club members focused on constructing LEGO botanical flowers and plants, honing their skills and creativity in a hands-on, educational setting.
The highlight of the day was a VIP “secret tour” of Lauter Steine’s workshop, where students got a sneak peek at current and future LEGO builds in progress. They learned how LEGO builders research local historic sites, such as Landstuhl Castle, and transform photos and artifacts into detailed LEGO creations — all without official build instructions.
To cap off the experience, students spent the afternoon exploring the park and received LEGO goodie bags as souvenirs, courtesy of Lauter Steine.
VES extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Xavier Flores and Mrs. Nicole Flores for organizing the field trip, and to Lauter Steine for their generous support and commitment to fostering creativity and learning among young students.
