Vogelweh Elementary School’s drama club transported audiences into a world of imagination and chocolate with its production of Willy Wonka JR. on May 14 and 15.

Adapted from Roald Dahl’s beloved book, the performance featured third through fifth graders in a vibrant retelling of the classic story. Directed by music teacher Mary Lee McGuire and with artistic design by art teacher Edith Allison, the play showcased the creativity and talent of Vogelweh’s young performers.

Students took to the stage in colorful costumes and brought the fantastical chocolate factory of Willy Wonka to life through singing, acting and elaborate set pieces. The show followed Charlie Bucket, a kind-hearted boy, as he toured the factory alongside four other children, each learning valuable life lessons along the way.

From mischievous Mike Teavee to the spoiled Veruca Salt, the student cast delivered a performance that earned both laughs and heartfelt applause. Months of rehearsals culminated in a show praised for its humor, message and charm.

In keeping with the play’s “golden ticket” theme, three audience members were selected at random to receive special prizes in a giveaway supporting the school’s drama program.

Faculty and volunteers played a key role behind the scenes, helping with costumes, set design and technical elements to ensure a smooth and engaging production. Their efforts helped create an immersive experience that brought the story to life.

Vogelweh Elementary’s take on Willy Wonka JR. was more than just a school play — it was a celebration of teamwork, imagination and the power of performance.
