Kaiserslautern, Germany – The Vogelweh Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) recently spearheaded a canned food drive to support the Ramstein Enlisted Spouses Association (RESA). The initiative, which ran from February 25th to March 7th, was a resounding success, demonstrating the power of community kindness and generosity.

In the weeks leading up to the school's glow dance, the PTSA announced the food drive, encouraging students and families to donate canned goods and non-perishable items. Baskets were set up in the school for each neighborhood, with the promise of a prize for the winning neighborhood, similar to the previous Candy Drive. To facilitate donations, bins were placed in the Commons, and additional bins were available during Movie Night.

With the PCS season approaching, many families found themselves with extra canned goods and non-perishables to donate. The PTSA recommended items such as sauces, soups, beans, vegetables in cans or jars, honey, peanut butter, and boxed juices.

The food drive culminated in a thrilling competition, with the kindergarteners emerging victorious by a narrow margin of just three items. They collected a total of 125 items, earning themselves a glow dance and cookie party. Fifth grade followed closely behind with 122 items.

On the final day of the drive, the PTSA delivered over 600 items, filling two car trunks, to RESA. The Vogelweh Elementary School (VES) community truly came together to support this cause, showcasing the importance of giving back and the impact of collective efforts.

The PTSA expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the food drive and looks forward to organizing more events in the future. The success of this initiative not only provided much-needed support to RESA but also taught students valuable lessons about kindness and community service.
