Fourth-grade students at Vogelweh Elementary School celebrated the end of the school year with a STEM Day filled with hands-on learning and discovery.

Led by teachers Christina Morgan, R.T. Caston and Melissa Driscoll, and organized by DiAnna Martinez, advanced academics programs and services resource teacher, the event introduced students to key scientific concepts like surface tension, aerodynamics and diffusion through eight interactive stations. Mrs. Angela Bradeen, MLP teacher, facilitated students moving through eight interactive stations, each offering a unique hands-on experience.

The non-digital, tech-free day encouraged students to build, test and problem-solve in real time. One of the most popular activities was the aerodynamics station, where students designed paper airplanes and took their creations outdoors to compete for distance.

“STEM Day is all about curiosity, creativity and teamwork,” Martinez said. “We wanted to give students a chance to engage with science in a hands-on, memorable way.”

Supporting the day were fifth-grade student facilitators and a group of volunteers, who helped guide participants through each station. Among them was parent volunteer Ms. Lane, who said she was inspired by the students’ determination during the tower-building challenge.

“When it would fall, they would simply start again,” Lane said. “Their resilience was amazing.”

STEM Day at Vogelweh Elementary served as a reminder that meaningful learning doesn’t always come from screens. For both students and staff, the day was a celebration of exploration, collaboration and the joy of discovery.
